     Fortunately the fediverse is more open to unshortened URLs, since regardless of the length, i.e. Mastodon counts them as 23 characters, which is a clear disincentive to using shorteners that track the users

     url shorteners are amongst the most cancerous tw*tter-promoted additions to the web. “let’s add another point of failure between a user and the resource they want. also they don’t get to see what they’re clicking on!”
