@ryo In theory it's possible, but a lot of work is needed (TBB exists but it forces everyone to use the same conf and their FF is not telemetry-free). There is what parameters you can change and what you shouldn't change.
@udon Don't forget to change your behavior online, either the exact same as everyone else, or a random personality every single time you open the browser. Even with all the privacy efforts made, if you're like me who sticks out like a needle because my viewpoints are one of a kind, you'll still become fingerprintable. Although the information will be useless since everything else is either the same as everybody else who has different personalities, or this personality will appear as if it exists in the millions of unique people.
Now I write this out, I think randomizing your fingerprint each time is a much better approach than making your fingerprint the same. Because one person saying "I LIKE LOLI'S, KILL THE JEWS!!" will quickly appear as many thousands of people having the same opinion, and they'll go like "OH MY GOD!! ANTISEMITISM IS RAISING AMONG THE LOLICONS!!".
@ryo Maintaining a behavioral change long-term is difficult, I agree that using a throwaway every session would probably be more anonymous especially in the long run
@ryo@udon It's pretty rare in my case, but in some boards I have read posts before that made me think "wait, did I write this?", and sometimes I didn't (sometimes I realize that actually, yes, I did write that many months in the past). Also, some other posts sound like they were written by someone that read a previous post of mine somewhere else. Kinda interesting. Though of course, I can blend in if I want to, in places with no usernames. Difficult to do with higher-quality posts, though. But again, a small number of people do write similar things and/or in a similar way, because they have traits that lead to the same type of writing. I actually don't know how many, they could all be just one person as far as I know.
@udon Actually, I think Pale Meme went down that route if I remember correctly. So instead of making your fingerprint identical to everybody else, they decided to randomize it. If every browser would do that, it would destroy fingerprinting so much that they'd have to find another way of surveilling you, which is why I think it's a good thing only Pale Meme does this, as not a single normie would ever use it, and once normies use it, you can bet we will have to prepare for the next major spyware and learn how to mitigate that.
Same with how it went with Adblockers, first it was just some nerds using it, so advertisers didn't care. But then the normies started using it, and then they started blocking adblockers, and we on our turn started blocking the blocking of adblockers, and they started blocking the blocking of the blocking of adblockers, and so on.
