The arguments for remaining on twitter to “fight” remind me of the gambling adage that the house always wins. “Fighting” there is like gambling and thinking you’ll eventually beat the house. But even if you win $10,000 at the slot machine it’s because it’s in the casino’s bigger interests to give you $10,000.

@Jelaniya @jeffjarvis Good analogy. I’ll add a twist: students of fascism (both for and against) know that one essential element that helps it advance is to keep the fighters fighting. (cc and please see @Teri_Kanefield ‘s extensive writings on this point).
If you don’t fight them on their turf or their terms, you cut off their fuel. Concentrate your efforts elsewhere — Teri also has a big to-do list of things that actually help.

@Jelaniya @jeffjarvis I’m not still there to fight. I’m there to survive. I can barely work. I have long covid & cancer. I run mutual aid networks for people there for people there who are worse off than me, for whom Twitter was a lifeline.
When I leave I lose my only source of community, an extra income & work. And people who depend on the extra exposure I give through my network on Fridays lose my help.
We feel the loss of every giant who leaves but we understand.
