There is this #book I have been looking for. I don't remember the title nor the author. It's an #autobiography of a man who lives in the state of #Washington. It's a thick, introspective book.
The author lives alone (human-wise) with a flock of chickens. In one episode he "talks" to the fox who was coming to get his chickens--and they strike a deal.

Their conversation happens with their eyes. No words. But thereafter it was established that he offers the fox food (e.g., bread or leftover something) & the fox will leave his chickens alone.
Once he forgets his side of the bargain. So the fox strikes. The author realizes and resumes performance of his side of bargain.
The author, I recall, comes from a very severe case of domestic violence (by his father). He talks about it in the book too.

I found that book at Powell's Book Store in PDX around 2004.
In the earlier part, the book discusses how the author worked with displaced (if my memory serves right) women and how working with actual soil helped these women to be in touch.
There are only fragmented scenes from that book. I don't know why I let it go--but I was in the middle of a lot of changes myself. So...I'm #LookingForABook...the one I describe above. If it rings a bell, pls let me know. I'd appreciate it greatly.

@aliza I`ll let you know if I can track it down. It's a big book (hundreds of pages) but tenderly and thoughtfully written, as I recall....
