     Or rather, it is, but it shouldn't be, and it's not going to succeed as social media.

     It's a weird alt combo version of Substack (without the mailing lists), twitter, and wordpress. It's news articles and pet pictures, and paid news articles. I get that it's still "beta" (pre-alpha would be a more apt description), and the social aspects are beyond lacking. No notifications when "friends" post, no continuity.

     maybe "cleaner looking, messier working, harder to navigate tumblr" would be more apt. The platform feels flaky and unlikely to scale much larger without a complete re-write, and redesign.

     @taylorlorenz I was initially concerned mastodon wouldn’t be viable because signup is too complicated for the average user, but Tumblr showing interest in ActivityPub might be a game changer in helping make the migration easier for some ??
