god help me I have a lot to say about the process of having a social media platform upended and played with like a toy thing (technically I suppose, toyed with like a play thing) but I also feel like everyone is sick of talking about it, even though we are all living through this.
where are my meta process processors who have the same need as I do to hash things out while they happen ?

@chancerydaily I've had a Twitter account since 2006 and I've been actively using it since 2008 or so. Mourning is absolutely the right word. Yes, sometimes it has not been great for my mental health, but on balance it has been a big positive in my life. I've made many friends (most online, but some IRL), advanced my career, learned about important topics, and had fun. Now that it's untenable to continue thinking about it the same way, I'm deeply sad about it.

I'm mourning for something that is lost, I know, and over the past several months, I've gotten very accustomed to processing everything that was happening about Twitter, on Twitter. And now I'm having an emotional response to what Twitter is becoming, and I know all my @macaw.social peeps can understand, but it's just so much, so meta, and the tool that I had at my handy disposal for handling moments like this (a long, deep, cathartic tweet thread) now just feels wrong.

I want to be intellectually honest about it all, but it's hard to do alone or with only bad faith actors pretending to dialogue (bUt He iS geTTinG riD of cHilD poRn - ARE YOU PRO CHILD PORN, ffs no, for the record, NO). but part of what made Twitter amazing was the dialectic you could have in real time with all sorts of people (I still argue this was the most common instance of the quote-tweet that I saw, although I understand that other, more nefarious uses existed).

I just have this dramatic need not to simply allow this to happen, to be forced without meaningful discussion to deal with the implications of one man's whims. It's an emotional imperative that I'm sure doesn't make sense in some ways—as people have rightly pointed out, I bend the knee albeit with side-eye in limited uses of other things that solely enrich people who operate on their whims. dialectic.
