@thor@antipode77@drduek If you can speak two languages, I don't see the big deal tbqh. Do British people get flack for "stone" when referring to someone's weight?
@antipode77@drduek they teach this system in school, even in America, but practical concerns prevent it from being adopted in day-to-day life. too much momentum. even if you teach your kid, it won't work.
The International System of Units, known by the international abbreviation SI in all languages and sometimes pleonastically as the SI system, is the modern form of the metric system and the world's most widely used system of measurement.
It is the only system of measurement with an official status in nearly every country in the world, employed in science, technology, industry, and everyday commerce.
@thor I like this. Stealing it for use in my math instruction course. I am always baffled by how the US is one of only 3 countries in the world that uses the Customary system. It makes no sense.
@thor@antipode77@drduek The only time this was ever a problem for me was finding high quality metric drill bits, which are harder to find in North America. I found them eventually but I had to pay a premium.
