@jeff For this to happen, we’d need to have a better understanding of liability and data security in the #fediverse. Then we’d need to know that there’s scale to generate a return and justify the resource investment - news orgs have very few digital/social folks, and they need to continue to put effort into other, larger platforms. If/when we can solve the fediverse for scale and we can be confident it’s secure, then it makes sense to invest in instances. #journalists #Mastodon

Jeff ( #TeamNormal ) (jeff@newsie.social)'s status on Friday, 25-Nov-2022 23:45:23 JST Jeff ( #TeamNormal ) At the turn of the (20th) century newspapers were the social media platforms of the day.
At the turn of the 21st century newspapers ceded that role, and their futures, to big-tech and the portals and silo-social networks.
The move to the fediverse gives modern news orgs a once in a generation opportunity to take that back.
Follow the lead of @TexasObserver and other news orgs that are launching their own instances for their staff/reporters and their audiences.
