No UI way to create a MIDI clip on an empty instrument/MIDI track (midi.new_clip has no menu entry) · Issue #282 · storytold/soundcraft
Summary On a new, empty instrument (or MIDI) track there is no way to create a MIDI clip from the UI, so a user can't enter notes by hand. The MIDI Editor shows "Select a MIDI clip (or a MIDI track...

@phnt graphite uses webkit (and i think svelte?) for the GUI explicitly because rust guis have and apparently always will be shit.

*craft uses egui, which is indeed shit.

@icedquinn Qt has GUI testing support in _some_ capacity, but it is not amazing. And every other toolkit is less complete, so you can guess how that is elsewhere. The webdev solution is to start a headless browser and simulate actions by finding the element in the DOM and interacting with it.

@phnt *craft has the command pattern pipeline down (good) and they're using it to drive actions from the GUI, JSON-RPC, and MCP points (good), and the GUI has the usual vibe code scuff.

which i suspect is because the GUI side is never tested. in theory you should be able to store menu/toolbar/etc definitions in KDL (you're gonna want these to be customizable anyway), and you should be able to make requirements from a similar KDL file, like "can always do activity <make midi clip> using only mouse" and i suspect that model work would miraculously improve the GUI of all this kind of shit.

the bugs are because they are using a shit oracle that can only react to test pass/fail and then there isn't a pass/fail response for this. :blobcatwaitwhat:
