   I'm constantly torn between two positions:

   1. Nobody with a modicum of sanity should be forced to read Dario Amodei's essays. (The Anthropic CEO.)
   2. It would be really funny to gather a group of experts to Mystery Science Theater 3000 them.

   I've shared these thoughts among some of my friends, and I can't get a consensus from them, either. It always splits the room.

     If you've ever felt a sense of "wow some of these AI enthusiasts are kind of cult-like" you've probably seen the effects of them.

     @whyrl @soatok I grew up in evangelism. Work had a thing where we were sent to an auditorium with a guy spouting reasons we should love and embrace AI and how it was going to work miracles for us. Attempts to question this were dismissed and mocked. Everyone already deep into AI was ecstatic. I eventually realised I was reliving religious trauma. It was terrifying how familiar it all felt. They have a new god called AI, and these believers can actually see their god talk back to them.

     @soatok Cult-like behaviour is the only explanation for the existence of AI enthusiasts that makes sense to me.

     They're just recreating Evangelical Christianity with a computer instead.

     You have an end times, a rapture, the faithful and unbelievers, the whole 9 yards. The machine will supposedly punish anyone who prevented it from existing, so Hell too.

     Anybody who has a faith with admonishments against idolatry and false religions should use this as a religious exemption against AI use.
