A fun trick I worked out for cutting mortices with a trim router so they're nice and tight: trim the corner off of some scrap that's the same size as the piece that you're fitting, down to the depth of the hole. I've already cut out most of the mortice and trimmed one side, so the block fits and lies flush with the uncut part. Then I can butt the router guide against that and trim away.
It works so incredibly well, the fit is so tight that I have to knock the post in with a mallet. It's good to remember that despite all of the "AI" nonsense and the terrible IT job market, I am still a smart motherfucker that can solve gnarly problems.
...but I only worked this out for the last two mortices - before that I was just sneaking up on the fit. Ah well, the next workbench will be perfect 🙃
Workbench progress report. Non-workbench things have been hectic, so I forgot to take photos of the trestles, but here I'm putting one of the backboards on. Ultimately the workbench will run the whole length of the windows, good light and good for looking out over the garden while doing workshop stuff...
