Last century, as the global economy emerged, the focus shifted on modifying food with preservatives; so they would survive the journey from being grown in Paraguay, being packaged in Vietnam, and then shipped to America for consumption. Somehow in capitalism's infinite wisdom, eating fruit that was harvested 9 months ago and traveled 30,000 miles is cheaper than growing food in the same hemisphere we live in.

@SK1ZM @Hoss also note that these fruits and vegetables are always picked extremely under ripe, which is why they are all bitter and need to be coated in oils for anyone to stomach them.

FWIW expeller-pressed oil is probably fine because it doesn't use chemical solvents to extract the oil. But unless that's specifically mentioned, it's safe to assume chemical extraction was involved.
