   so remember all those years I spent saying that the people in charge of big foss projects were elitist creeps who were, ironically, mostly interested in being the arbiters of what software you are and aren't allowed to use on a computer, and building cults of personality and dogmatic quasi-religions around licenses to keep themselves relevant and powerful despite being deeply odious?

     The strongest whiff there’s something wrong is when someone wants to lead the same open source project for more than a handful of years—they simply should be bored of it by then and do something else.

     Not saying it’s true of all maintainers but doing the same OSS thing for 20+ years is a red flag that they care more about admiration and “power” than the projects.

     we need to start a new movement called good software. software that is good, and does good, for the public good.

     the freedom part is the wrong focus. it's a misaligned value judgement. you can write free software that bombs children. you can have a free software project maintained by a fascist or a rapist. software that bombs children, by the very definition, can never be good. projects where fascists and rapists are allowed into positions of power are, by the very definition, not good.
