@ai6yr@Viss@spencer I was in there. We hosted Rate My Body among other sites. I don't recall seeing any plastic fronts on servers. It got hot, I'm sure of that, but we hosted in another data center downtown that actually used fans b/c their A/C was down on a more permanent basis (which is why we left them for 1 Wilshire, iirc). Nothing melted. Probably an urban legend.
@ai6yr@spencer when i was a kid, i had someone tell me this story that at 1 wilshire, one of the most famous data centers in LA, myspace was being hosted - and one day there was a power outage. the systems were on battery backup, but the cooling wasnt - so the heat in there got so high that it caused the plastic fronts of servers to get warm emough to melt and get droopy - but ive never been able to find an article about it
@Viss@spencer So... I have heard that story before, along those lines. (about One Wilshire). I suspect it's true. (I recall someone I knew had equipment failure from that event)
@ai6yr oh yeah took some of my services offline and my colleague who runs a wisp lost all transit out at that location, providers like hurricane electric, arelion went out too due to heat
