his politics aside it's based that Abdul el-Sayed got the Michigan senate nomination because the reaction to his and Mamdani's campaigns really exposed how insanely normalized islamophobia is in the US. like you can straight up accuse a guy running for a major political office of being a terrorist and not get sued for defamation as long as he's Muslim. shit is whack.

@winterklaus the only reason the opportunity exists here at all is because of how fucking bad things have gotten and how effective the Democrats have been at preventing anything moving a single millimeter to the left, which is of course their entire reason for existing at this point.

@winterklaus the thing you must understand about the US is that things have gotten this bad because the state has been gradually being dismantled of its function to serve the self-preservation of the dictatorship of the bourgeois. I forget if it was Marx or Lenin who talks about this (or maybe both idk I'm on less than four hours of sleep today) but the bourgeois state exists to reign in the most destructive tendencies of capital, and the US is basically an prolonged experiment in being like "what if we just didn't do that and effectively had ancapistan but with a fascist police state and the most expensive military in the world to terrorize the third world with?"
things have gotten so bad that the US has gotten to the point where it very blatantly is no longer even capable of acting in its own self-interests as an entity and is able to function on a fundamental level. which is why I've been comparing it to the state that Russia was in before 1917: a backwards, decrepit empire that represents the last dying gasps of the old regime (which in this case is capitalism itself) that is only ripe for revolution because it has destroyed itself.

@winterklaus yeah, there's a subtle difference between the tailists who say like "well we gotta say we hate trannies and immigrants because that's what the Working Class(tm) think" vs locating what the tensions are in the current state of things and then pressing on them to break open the virtual lines of flight. it just so happens that right now that's extremely fucking easy to do if you're not a willfully ignorant ideologue.

@winterklaus being something of an ultra communizer whatever who is well-read in extremely niche theory, I've started to find it very tiresome how common it is for the supposedly advanced consciousness types to not understand that if you actually want to *do* anything and not just posture to your friends about having the correct opinions, you need to be able to diagnose what the current conditions and opportunities are and then work within that instead of screeching in the cuck chair of history about how the DSA are social fascists or some other terminally online leftoid shit.

@nyx i am learning a lot watching the situation, hard to articulate but i get the sense that presently, heterogeneous political strategy in this moment means that the mass moves one way, imperfectly, and there's little point in taking a position that wants it another way, there are angles of attack, lines of flight within that. it won't go how we might like but it's important that it's going

@nyx genuinely crazy to b rooting for DSA electoralism but it becomes clear it might as well b worth supporting so long are there exists enough left-faction membership to keep them from tailing the Dems too badly (failing at this with mamdani but it could also b worse).

@winterklaus it's very clearly the site of struggle right now. my analysis of the situation has been though that there will likely need to be a point where the contradictions sharpen enough that the DSA is forced into going underground and adopting a more militant/revolutionary stance (sorta like what happened with the Bolsheviks once they became too powerful and were explicitly suppressed with state violence). I think there is also the slim possibility that the DSA could succeed in a peaceful transition to socialism similarly with what happened in Chile when Allende was elected, if only because the US is such a decrepit dying empire that there is literally nowhere else for history to go other than complete collapse and balkanization or socialism (i.e. "socialism or barbarism" but like actually).
but it's hard to say and maybe will be a mix of the two things because the US is very unevenly developed. it's simultaneously the wealthiest country in the world and yet the American people are broadly immiserated in very basic ways yet also have not known the kind of daily fight for survival struggles that people in Russia or China did when they had their communist revolutions. it is truly an unprecedented situation but one thing I know for sure is that there's absolutely no way the status quo is going to be able to continue for much longer.
