   Why is everyone suddenly talking about some douchy coinbro blogger high on cat farts who I've never heard of as if he's someone who matters?

     @dalias he wrote some things that were, if not influential per se, at least widely read and commented on back in the very early days of AWS. He was also pretty visible at Google back in the mid-late oughts, so at least some of the posts are from folks who knew him and are having a hard time watching his journey into whatever-this-is. (I'm not posting on it, but I knew him and am finding it hard to watch.)

     @firebreathingduck I'm not terribly sympathetic. Looking back on other Ex-Googlers who have "lost their way", they were doing horrible things at the time too and everybody was looking the other way or spinning the narrative.

     I think his early blog posts on programming were insightful, even if he had an asshole tone.

     His “platforms rant” is, I think, worth reading even now, and I think it’s one of the best tech industry blog posts, ever.

     And sometime between then and now, he lost his way. (Is “lost his mind” ableist?)
