I spent my entire morning figuring out how to get Cloudron (on a Digital Ocean droplet) backing up to my TrueNAS server over Tailscale using SSHFS.
Hell, I'm exhausted just writing that sentence.

@alisynthesis I am pretty much a nature nomad now, you're right (currently camped out on the Chetco River). Which makes having that TrueNAS server (hosted at my mom's house) even more important!
@killyourfm wait I thought you were living in the woods and stuff
@alisynthesis Exactly! It's running Immich, Plex, Tailscale, and serves as my video production backup + archive. Now it's even backing up my Ghost and PeerTube instance, which rocks!
@killyourfm although I would definitely want my NAS running if I were living in the woods :)
@alisynthesis Thank you 💙
Aside from minor challenges (like showers and electricity from time to time), it's been wonderful. I've been documenting some of it here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIFdomLegZ_U
@killyourfm gotta have your stories! and music. and backups. and and and. :)
hope you're having a great experience out there <3
@alisynthesis It's borderline shocking how many people I've run into during the last 2 months that are doing the same thing. Even more surprising is how many people who aren't living this lifestyle still encourage it, and I think wish they had it...
@killyourfm fuck it, it's 2026, time for #VanLife
@alisynthesis those are all very solid reasons to have a roof over your head! I’ll admit one of the most frustrating things is not having a set routine.
My location and camping style or other unpredictable factors make the day to day kind of fluid sometimes.
@killyourfm I don't wish I had it, I've tried it in a variety of ways and it's not for me, but I can totally see why it works for some people!
I think it's great when people are able to totally change their day to day life so that they are [happier, more fulfilled, healthier, etc].
But yeah, the idea of living on the move is sooo romantic. The day to day, though? Not my cup of tea! I thrive in my own space/routine. Plus I have a big music studio that contributes greatly to my happiness. :)
