   linux “isn’t a social warrior project” and should only be evaluated on its technical merits? ok!

   it’s a mediocre unix-like and the only reason why I use it is because of binary compatibility and drivers, things that linus didn’t contribute to the kernel in any way that matters for modern programs or hardware

   if not for compatibility and drivers, I’d be on a BSD

   since it’s not a “social warrior project” and the use of LLMs is going to make its codebase fucking unsustainable, I now struggle to technically differentiate the Linux kernel from the windows kernel in any way that matters

     “just fork it if you’re not happy” said the guy who runs the social structure that makes an effective fork impossible to the people who did the social and technical labor that made him comfortably wealthy and extremely powerful

     “just fork it if you’re not happy” said the head of the open source project that sucked the air out of all the alternatives, as large projects always do in open source spaces

     you have no idea how massive some of the hacks behind your allegedly working desktop are til you try and build anything on red hat’s crap

     I would legitimately not give a shit about linux and neither would anyone else, except that it’s a social collective of labor donated under an understanding that linus has violated
