   Democrats don't run campaigns about how they're a tough as nails cop who will clean up the city and kill criminals with their own shoelaces or whatever because it actually wins elections but because that's how they think poor people should be treated as a general rule.

     Basically, whenever Democrats insist they have to craft their message to appeal to white conservative men and head off the inevitable Republican attack ads -- that's the stuff they really believe.
