   Hot take: "game consoles" haven't been actual game consoles since at least the PS3/Xbox360 generation, probably even earlier.

   They are instead general purpose computers that are artificially restricted to mostly games.

   Case in point: the PS3/4/5 can all run Linux.

     An SNES otoh definitely is a real game console because it is not capable of doing many general purpose computing tasks, for example it's not possible to just draw an arbitrary line on screen. All graphics must be assembled from 2D tiles. The limitations come from the hardware.
