    @CiaraNi They're more common than you (and I, until we bought one weeks ago: was the "stock" option) realise.

    It's basically a normal shifting / external gearing system with the mechanical cable from the handlebar to the gear replaced by a little motor inside the gearing thingy.
    Small buttons on the handlebar do the shifting. Signal is send wireless or with a cable.

    I assume eight years from now something breaks in the middle of winter and I'll be all pissed.

      @osma @Pepijn My experience is that it is more of a problem these days because there are so many more cargo bikes and e-bikes. Which is a great thing, but it changes the requirements for how many and what kind of bikes fit at bike racks.

      "The bike I ride the most km on doesn't have a motor, but its gears are e-actuated. I call it the "bike with mike.""

      Cool! I've never seen that kind of bike.
