👆 This is how Sony PR tries to frame the ending of physical discs as something gamers want. It’s corporate gibberish and an outright lie. There are two more plausible reasons for this move.
1. There is ZERO competition in the digital Playstation games market, there simply is no other platform, not counting "codes in a box". It's a monopoly and Sony has full control over pricing. Expect Sony exclusives to cost full retail for a very long time (see Nintendo).
2. This will completely eliminate the secondary, pre-owned market for upcoming games. You can't sell or share digital games.
As an unfortunate side effect, public libraries can no longer lend future Playstation games - sorry, kids.
A sad day for gaming fans and game collectors.
