   @jamey@toot.cat @EveHasWords@toot.cat one of the reasons for the name split was so the documentation wouldn't get confused. that might've been a primary driver for it, even. perl/raku folks don't want a python 2/3 situation.
   
   as for learning material, the old stuff is fine. perl 5 degrades extremely gracefully in a similar manner as C/C++ compilers (by pinning a supported feature set to a script).
   
   i suggest picking either one to learn if you're at all interested in whimsy, they're both fantastic languages but perl's CPAN is extensive if you're intending on doing real-world work.
