One of the greatest shames in my entire life is that I ever though his movies were good.

@BullSchmitt @askedfornopickles @DK_Dharmaraj @Yurt_Dweller @graf the fun thing is jews actually worship other gods beside what they call "God", which is more "paganistic" than what the catholics do

@Yurt_Dweller @graf yeah that's ultragay and not just because of the loving cock bit
the thing is you have to see that in the context of the late 90s culture wars. and like, yes, from the vantage of Current Year, it is true that a lot of what the Pat Robertson types forecasted came true

if you weren't there it's hard to explain just how utterly cringe and retarded the politicized late 90s nondenominational Christian types (the types who got GWB elected twice) were
so I have very mixed feelings about this because it was very much a finkelthink type dialectic at the time. one the one hand you had the people who would in a few years be Dawkins Fedora Nu Atheists and on the other side you had literal Young Earth Creationists who made utter trash like the "Left Behind" series into bestsellers and were frothing at the mouth Zionists

@DK_Dharmaraj @Yurt_Dweller @graf the 80s/90s era Christian culture war would have gone better for them if instead of going all in on "No Fun Allowed" satanic panic mode they turned around and said: "Oh you like Dungeons and Dragons? Ya know Crusades was just 1 giant Paladin only party, and God was their DM."

@askedfornopickles @DK_Dharmaraj @Yurt_Dweller @graf The thing is many evangelicals don't see the Crusades or Middle Ages Christians as "Christian" because they were anti-jewish and/or made copious use of violence

@CosmaruCiorilor @askedfornopickles @DK_Dharmaraj @Yurt_Dweller @graf Even moreso the fact that Medieval (Western European) Christians were Catholic, which is "paganistic", but Jews are ok. See Jack Chick for the ultimate in retardation on this.

@DK_Dharmaraj @graf True, however I remember listening to him talk about how he treated the Christian critics of the movie and it was literally going out with his gay friend and protesting with them holding sparkly signs that said "I LOVE COCK"

@DK_Dharmaraj @Yurt_Dweller this isnt a flaw. peepee poopoo humor used to be king
now in order to be funny you cannot make fun of any person who belongs to a class other than priviledged white male

@graf @Yurt_Dweller yeah and Clerks in particular has some pretty good comedic timing despite being rough around the edges. I haven't seen Dogma in ages and wonder how I'd find it today but it's noteworthy for not being overtly blasphemous/sacrilegious, actually making the demons the bad guys and God the good guy more or less unambiguously

@Yurt_Dweller I mean they're fine for juveniles, they're the product of a juvenile mind
