In Japanese folklore Tenjin is a Shinto deity of learning, scholarship and academia. Originally a famous poet and scholar, he was deified after his death and became a god of natural disasters. Over time his role changed and he became the patron of students and academics. He is also associated with plum trees and bulls. I've written about him here: http://www.curiousordinary.com/2022/01/tenjin.html #DailyFolklore#folklore#japodon#JapaneseFolklore#Japan
@curiousordinary Sugawara no Michizane is said to have been a brilliant man and a god of learning. In his later years, he was unfortunately transferred to Kyushu and met a miserable end. Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine was built to mourn his soul.
