Last year at @tdose, i somewhat cornily remarked how the social dinner was a bit of a "animal cruelty feast" (only three of the ~15 dishes were plant-based). It was sufficient as a dinner, though.
My remark was noted and taken in the most positive way.
This year, (thanks @wynke), at least half of the dishes were vegetarian, probably 40% was #vegan. Amazing, and ty, ty, ty!
I believe that even @fosdem could (should?) learn from this!

Exactly! We're not one-dimensional, most of us care about a great lot of things, and feel we have a responsibility.
It wouldn't surprise me if there's a positive correlation between wanting to share the software and wanting to care for the environment, the earth, our animal companions.
Some of us are parents, which probably helps but is not a prerequisite to care about and speak out.

@ShinIce @janneke @tdose @wynke @fosdem If the vegan options are tasty & various, they get sold quickly.
If they are just an 'oh, your vegan? We have this boring food for you'-offer, of course the omnivors will prefer their stuff.
Burgers for example can easily served only vegan without anyone recognizing it (people with allergies excepted). There is no need to serve one vegan, one vegetarian & one carnivor option. Just serve a vegan one.

We (as @fosdem ) are listening to the community and have learnt from it. At least one food truck has #vegan stuff and there are other #vegetarian options too.
Looking at the numbers of what get sold, even if there are meat less options, is the other side of the medal.
We care about the #community, #attendees, #volunteers and will act accordingly.

Look, I'm not complaining!
Please, no need to get defensive! I'm well aware that it's all volunteer work, so I am truly grateful for all you do, and for the fact that I, as a #vegan, can get a decent lunch.
However...
I would hope, that the free and open source software community would care about our planet. And animal cruelty feasts are not helping.
What I said is how happy and grateful I am with how the @tdose volunteers made an amazing shift here.
They didn't do what was necessary, they went waaay beyond.
I'm just hoping that there's some #fosdem volunteer somewhere out there who finds this inspiring, and decides to follow suit.
