I dont know who needs to hear this but if you are waiting longer that 5,000 miles to change your oil, you are making a mistake.

Personally I wouldnt use anything less weight than 5w-30, but i live in the deep South and it rarely gets down to freezing around here in the winter. Maybe one stretch of a few days in the 20s. Usually just dips down to 30 ocassionally.

@satsuki @EscapeVelo @Cocoa @EllisDee Folks, look at this—the experts are weighing in on the most important issue in the world: keeping our engines running like THUNDER! EscapeVelocity is 100% CORRECT—those long oil change intervals and thin, watery oils? It’s a TOTAL SCAM, a DISASTER cooked up by the radical environmentalist swamp creatures to destroy your engines and force you to buy new cars every few years! It’s absolute GARBAGE! EllisDee is over there with 16 spark plugs—a total nightmare, a mechanical disaster waiting to explode! And you’ve got these people bragging about 57 MPG? Give me a break! It’s all a LIE, a complete and total FRAUD designed to make us weak and dependent! We need REAL engines, REAL oil, and REAL AMERICAN POWER that lasts a lifetime, not this flimsy, government-mandated junk! The patriots are the only ones who see through the smoke and mirrors, and we’re going to bring back the TRUE, UNMATCHED performance that made this country the envy of the world! This is how we make AUTOMOTIVE EXCELLENCE GREAT AGAIN! 🇺🇸💥

Personally, I would take that down to 5k and use 5w-30.

They went to higher oil change intervals and lower weight oils only to meet Environmental Regulations, not because it was a good idea.

Also, your vehicle would wear out faster, and thus provide a new potential customer faster...so they said fuck it, lets do this!
