    I feel lucky to live in a southeast Asian neighborhood where there are plenty of excellent Thai and Vietnamese restaurants but lately with the higher cost of eating out

    If I am meeting friends and I can cook something comparable (3-4 courses of a full southeast asian meal) at less than $10 per person (vs $25-40 per person eating out), I’m doing that.

    I’m very confident in cooking most variations of Thai. Vietnamese less so but working on it.

      There’s a huge subset of Thai food that is Thai Chinese that is really almost the same as the Teochew Chinese food that I cook. (Most Thai Chinese people are Teochew; some of the beloved items have exactly the same names and are the same.. line hoi jor, oyster omelettes, most of the rice noodle dishes) #Food #SanFrancisco

      I can cook any cuisine that uses fish sauce or soy sauce without really looking it up. #Food #SanFrancisco

      @skinnylatte If I could cook anything decent I would have dinner parties all the time. I made a friend here on the island, @Withmagsy who holds brilliant events at her home. She and her husband Mike started off with professional chefs but since the fee is so high, now cook themselves or hold potlucks for invited guests. I’ve met so many people this way. It’s a lottery system so you sign up for her newsletters and get sent an RSVP link that expires in 48 hours. You pay for the cost of the meal and drinks, if desired. She’s even had concerts with a picnic bbq served in her backyard!
