    Ahh the age old dilemma: pay politicians enough to attract new honest blood or pay them next to nothing for the privilege to serve.

    How about free-for-all, every man for himself Libertarianism? We don't need your stinking government.

      If you want to attract better employees, pay them more.

      Economics 101.

      $175K is way below market rate for the type of work Congress is doing.

      Senior government employees make quite a bit more than that. The US government employee pay scale goes up to $233K.

      Why should deep state bureaucrats make more money than the people's elected Congress?

      Unlike Congress, we don't get to vote ourselves a raise.

      @ILoveAmericaNews

      Things have not materially changed for the average American.

      You have to rah-rah the expense of foreign policy and bear it with a stalwart grimace.

      Rent's up. Housing's more expensive. Cars are stupidly expensive.

      The biggest culprit is inflation.

      Spending on the war does nothing to alleviate that.

      In effect any of the gains from cutting off EBT and deportations is offset by war-spending.

      Most of that is dubious at best, and none of it has anything to do with Congressional salaries.

      Last I saw, 3 million more American-born citizens have jobs than they did when Trump took office, and millions less foreigners are employed in America.

      I personally landed a position that pays more than twice as much as I have ever earned, and that position being available to me is the direct result of Trump's war on DEI.

      You're repeating alt-left talking points, and you're smarter than that.

      Or, pay them no money, require them to already be independently wealthy, and still win votes. And their independent wealth can't be consulting or charity, or somewhere that can be flooded with "definitely not lobbying" money.
