     It just sounds like such a bullshit story. That's not how robberies usually go down or went down in that era. His running and somehow avoiding getting blasted while doing so, while his roommate did is also suspect. Typically, when they want you dead, no one survives. There are rare cases, but this ain't one of them.
     
     It also seems like a lot of work for an era when a few car stereos would be far more valuable and incur less risk.
