     All of this is ultimately downstream from the South Park "This is What Scientologists actually believe" scene which itself is downstream from the bonkers crap these people do in fact actually believe. Their history of murder, kidnapping, and open subversion of federal and state governments are also involved here.

     I remember people going after it for being a fake religion you pay your way into and for being tax exempt.
