On September 1 I’ll join the elite club (members Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs, Mike Markkula, and Bill Fernandez) who have worked under a number of Apple CEOs ≥ our employee number:

    Woz: 1 (Scott)
    Jobs: 2 (Scott, Markkula)
    Markkula: 3 (Scott, Sculley*, Spindler*)
Fernandez: 4 (Scott, Markkula, Sculley, Spindler)
Espinosa: 8 (Scott, Markkula, Sculley, Spindler, Amelio, Jobs, Cook, Ternus)

    * Markkula was a non-executive Board member under Sculley and Spindler but remained on active payroll

@justkwin @integerpoet @jamesthomson @Cdespinosa DSID was assigned based on when your team was onboarded to the "new" Directory Services in the '90s. It was a staged rollout and the number started off being only 4 digits. The only person I found who had a DSID lower than mine was Jim Kateley. If he's still there, he can probably confirm how that all happened.

This may be hard for people under 50 to comprehend, but there was a time when you were not issued a username and password when joining a corporation.

That time was followed by a dark era when you were issued MULTIPLE usernames and passwords.

@integerpoet @jamesthomson @Cdespinosa Your number is actually /higher/ than mine, which contradicts your alphabetical theory. And the delta is only 4, which is more evidence for my Sonar theory. But… well… *shrug*

@integerpoet @jamesthomson @Cdespinosa Ooo, yours might be lower than mine, and I keep getting that surprised look when folks have reason to look it up. I think it came from being really early adopters of Sonar.

@justkwin @jamesthomson @Cdespinosa I assumed mine was simply due to alphabetically ordered names of employees at the moment we all got IDs.

@jamesthomson @Cdespinosa I not only got my old employee number back (orders of magnitude higher than CDE’s but still comparatively low) but also my directory services ID, which is so low that I keep getting told it must be a typo or a system account.

@Cdespinosa If I rejoin, do I keep my old employee number? If so, I think I only need to stay another 300,000 or so years in the job.
