Question for the #Vivaldi team: Mobile browsers don't support registerProtocolHandler, making Fediverse cross-instance engagment painful on that growing segment... (what we called the "copy-paste dance").

Since Vivaldi builds its own Chromium based mobile browser, could you enable protocol handler support natively on Vivaldi mobile Or bake in web+ap: scheme handling directly?

Vivaldi could be the first mobile browser to solve this! 🎻

**Proposal for Fediverse Remote Content Engagement** Updated April 14, 2026
Tim Chambers, @tchambers@indieweb.social Updated: April 2026 Enhancing User Experience for Remote Social Interactions in ActivityPub Applications I. Introduction: The Challenge of Federated Interactions Decentralized social networking platforms, operating on a federated model where users reside on independent servers (instances) yet can interact across the network, offer resilience and community autonomy. However, this architecture has historically presented user experience (UX) challenges, particularly for interactions initiated from one instance but targeting a user or content on another.

While the idea is interesting, our mobile team currently doesn't have the resources to start looking into this, especially since a similar feature request on the forum: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/82107/mobile-web-protocol-handlers-as-a-web-first-technology-for-better-fediverse-integration, so far, hasn't gathered any support from the Vivaldi Community.
You can upvote that feature request and add your own comments to it. Who knows what the future brings, we may take it on some day. :tony_normal:

@Vivaldi Thanks for this reply and being open to potentially considering it should user support boost up that idea. I'll login and add my vote.
