   Why don't you want to do a distro-update? Unless you have a lot of 3rd party repos, it's usually seamless.

     Are you on ZFS or btrfs? You can just do a snapshot and always roll back if you are.

     @djsumdog never done a distro-update before that didn't break everything... but I am new to debian. Switched from ubuntu last year.
