Age verification is some of the most impossible laws I've heard of. What about OSes on things that don't have screens? ESP... does that count?
#Linux... I'm sudo. I can write any file on this thing. Any age verification on here could be defeated/removed. How would they enforce it? Garuda even pointed out they're not based in areas with these laws.
If they want more than just typing it in, how does that work in a CLI only install?
What about machines with no hardware to scan things?

@revk Oh yeah, I hadn't even thought about that.
I also have user accounts that aren't a person. They're for one computer to issue commands to another.
I have a user on one of my server that's just for Home Assistant to send commands over ssh.
Some of these systems very deliberately don't connect to the internet. What then?
One of mine CAN'T connect to the internet. It doesn't have the necessary hardware to do so!

@hellomiakoda Yeh, our firewalls have an "O/S", does that count?

I still want to know how old "root" is, or "lp"... They are "users" too.

@truls46 I can't even begin to speculate on RouterOS, or HAOS. People in my house interact with HAOS having no idea what the UI even looks like, let alone having a user account.
The printer downstairs technically has an OS... How does that work?
Hell, my fucking wifi access point... I think they called it AirOS. How in the actual fuck would that thing even begin to factor in.

I fully agree, this is complete and utter nonsense.

Think about computers that are used by multiple people using the same account.

Or a a vending machine for e.g. train tickets: it's also a computer - but the user has no account at all.

And cars are computers on wheels as well today.

@hellomiakoda @revk imagine the impact on the internet if only computers older than 18 years can communicate with other computers
