The dumb mistake it made - Attempting to detect which image is my profile pic by reading the URL. Not only did it not grasp it'll always be whatever URL Mastodon stores my pfp at, it attempted to look for the local file path. Noob mistake. It did, however, figure out it was being stupid when I pointed that out.

What it was trying to do was detect if my Mastodon pfp was currently set to my usual meh face, or if it was currently set to match my PlayStation avatar. Once I pointed out it was being stupid, it figured out it needed to make the automation keep track of that locally by setting a flag whenever it made that change.

If anyone is wondering why I had it do all this -
A) for fun.
B) A very low risk to form my own opinions about using this to write some code. -

My opinion at the end of this little experience?
The scripts I had it make all have comments clearly stating the tool was used to make them. I feel that's incredibly important both for troubleshooting, and if they're shared for anyone else to use.
For little low stakes, low risk shit, for your own use, and no claims you wrote it yourself, it doesn't seem like a big deal to use the tool. It's like a CD burner, or a knife. HOW you use the tool is more important that the tool itself. -

I don't think this tool should be coding games or other creative works. I don't think it should be used for things that could contain other people's plagiarized code (Except for corpo written proprietary code - steal the fuck out of that). It absolutely shouldn't be used for things in which mistakes could compromise security, safety, or privacy. It shouldn't be used for things that are life and death, or decide if someone is jailed.

You should also keep in mind that whatever you used it for is very likely now part of that tool.
I'm sure all of my entire automation is sitting there on the tool's servers for it to know how to do that in someone else's project. For the love of sanity, don't give the fucking too your API keys! My god! Why would anyone do that?! -

On that note, DO NOT GIVE THAT TOOL OTHER PEOPLE'S PERSONAL INFORMATION YOU FUCKING MORON! That is a consent issue!

@mensrea This is a valid point of view, and I remain open to changing my POV. It's entirely possible my opinion will change after some processing time.

@hellomiakoda in this case i disagree, the social context of the tool is, given it's scale, more important than the tool

@mensrea For now, I will agree the scale needs to be much tinier. Making a stupid little automation with something that consumes so much is not good. If it can be scaled down to something I can run on my own hardware, I'd be more likely to use it more than just a single experiment project.
