So, let’s cut to the chase:

If Mastodon GmbH and mastodon.social went away today would Mastodon and the fediverse still exist tomorrow?

Yes.

If Bluesky Social, PBC and bsky.app went away today would the “Atmosphere” still exist tomorrow?

No.

I really don’t understand what’s so hard to grasp about the diametrically opposed goals of a VC-funded entity that controls a technology and decentralisation.

We’re still looking at wolves marketing homes for sheep and thinking “sounds like a nice, safe neighbourhood.” It’s simply not good enough. How is it 2026 and we’re still giving these people every tbenefit of the doubt?
