        Motte-and-bailey fallacy
The motte-and-bailey fallacy (named after the motte-and-bailey castle) is a form of argument and an informal fallacy where an arguer conflates two positions that share similarities: one modest and easy to defend (the "motte") and one much more controversial and harder to defend (the "bailey"). The arguer advances the controversial position, but when challenged, insists that only the more modest position is being advanced. Upon retreating to the motte, the arguer may claim that the bailey has not been refuted (because the critic refused to attack the motte) or that the critic is unreasonable (by equating an attack on the bailey with an attack on the motte). History Philosopher Nicholas Shackel, who coined the term, prefers to speak of a motte-and-bailey doctrine instead of a fallacy. In 2005, Shackel described the reference to medieval castle defense like this: A Motte and Bailey castle is a medieval system of defence in which a stone tower on a mound (the Motte) is surrounded by an area of land (the Bailey) which in turn is encompassed by some sort...

@sickburnbro Dev is such a faggot man, how the fuck do you turn full SJW in 2026 like years after it hits it's peak

He literally kept making videos about SJWs man, he knows damn well that the convo had slipped from that real badly and had all sorts of weird attempts to rewrite reality in every single facets of life, including schools, science, with the elimination of outright mentioning gender and yadda yadda

Bro literally researched this shit for a living (or side income, at least)

@sickburnbro His Twitter is a massive treasure trove of consistent bad shitlib takes, like it was 2016 again, from a guy who significantly should know better than that, pretty much committing toe "liberalism" to such an extent that he became the shitlib he used to make videos on. Doesn't bro live in Toronto too? He should be seeing the consequences every day
