@monokeros @soatok @0x4d6165 Long-term, yes. Short-term, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. A Discord alternative with sensible custody of messages, decent UI, providing the bare minimum-acceptable user empowerment, but no E2EE, would be better than Discord, and (owing to its lower switching costs) could act as a gateway to better alternatives.

@wizzwizz4 @monokeros @0x4d6165 You're free to make that case if you want.
I cannot, in good conscience, recommend people emit plaintext.

@soatok @monokeros @0x4d6165 We're currently communicating over a non-E2EE messaging system. Obviously everything should be encrypted over the wire (it's nigh-trivial to use a TLS library: just don't compress attacker-controlled data together with sensitive data, and it's probably secure), but the cryptography for encrypted group chats with message history doesn't seem trivial to me. (I'm sure I could assemble the primitives into something that looks like E2EE, but I doubt it would actually be.)

@wizzwizz4 @monokeros @0x4d6165 We're also posting publicly.
If we wanted to discuss something 1:1, I would tell you to use Signal.
