Before the #EuropeanUnion 🇪🇺 bans #X, they need to ensure that the ban will be enforceable.

If nations in the EU 🇪🇺 refuse to ban 𝕏, then European Union 🇪🇺 citizens will simply skirt the ban by changing App Store locations.

👉🏾 Nearly half of Europeans would back banning Musk's X if it keeps breaking #EU 🇪🇺 law, new poll finds 🔛 @euronews 📰 https://www.euronews.com/next/2026/02/11/nearly-half-of-europeans-would-back-banning-musks-x-if-it-keeps-breaking-eu-law-new-poll-f

Unless government ID is required to access social media, it would be very difficult to ban 𝕏 in the age of Virtual Private Networks.

@gunchleoc That is an interesting point, but do you believe every EU nation will agree with the ban‽ I do not see Hungary 🇭🇺 signing on to the ban, & they may actively oppose it as well. Would a ban require consensus across all EU member states‽

@darnell The problem this will solve is status.

A ban should get European politicians off the platform, which means their X posts will no longer be cited by news outlets, which means less free advertising for it.

So what if some private citizens decide to circumvent the ban, they could also go darknet or Telegram or whatever.
