   I get sent around to Texas a lot for classes and I always have a good time wherever I go. I check out any historical places, museums, state parks, hiking trails, antique stores, living history villages, etc. I've even visited a zoo. Most of my coworkers complain about going because "there's nothing to do!" I can't imagine being so boring that your only entertainment is getting blasted drunk. Pitiful.

     @alcade Oh, I don't think I got to share about this but you reminded me!
     
     When I was on my long drive across the country a couple weeks ago, I had to pull off for gas in Utah and where I pulled off, there was just this long road for 3 miles to the gas station. And there was this little tourist stop, but it was a Mormon fort established in 1867 by western expansionists. It was so gorgeous; not in perfect repair but well maintained by the family of LDS who own the fort and surrounding land now.
     
     It wasn't a defensive fort, like people think of; it was more of a well-fortified inn with enough space for carriages and wagons. They could hold maybe 40 people a night; the surrounding private land was beautifully maintained, all identical little houses as you'd expect from more insular LDS, but they had a dedicated spot for pets to potty, the views of the mountains were stunning... I was so blessed to find it.
