    And the next stage of wisdom is to discover physics and learn that actually there is no such thing as free will ...

      @bmacDonald94 The consensus seems to be something along the lines of:

      "There is no physical basis for free will, therefore it does not exists. But ... as we can't in practice predict how anyone is going to behave in the future, including ourselves, we might as well live our lives as if free will is a thing after all."

      @TimWardCam @bmacDonald94 What's funny about this is beliefs are causally efficacious, regardless of determinism. So whether you believe you have free will or not, that affects your behavior. It's practical to behave as though you have free will despite a free-will-less philosophy. It is hard to find characters in fiction though who live with the impractical nihilistic interpretation. I believe the only time I've seen it is in No Country For Old Men (2007).
