Posting a story about mushroom poisoning is just like posting a story about scams. Everybody thinks it won’t happen to them, they’re so smart, unlike all the victims

@davidnjoku more than 40 people in California have had mushroom poisoning since Nov. It’s much more frequent and severe than before. We have many mushrooms that look like edible ones in other countries so many immigrants pick them.
Many mushroom enthusiasts from other places are commenting that it’s dumb that people do that, they totally wouldn’t do it coz they know so much more, when in fact what I was posting about is region specific: California has many more toxic mushrooms that look like something else. Like it’s an actual situation the state is saying don’t eat them at all even if you are an expert
But many people here think they would totally be experts
Which is maybe why there is so much mushroom poisoning

@skinnylatte I thought you were going to say that it was like posting about plane crashes, in that it's really rare but everyone gets scared that it might happen to them.
I have to admit that I didn't know it happened at all. But I guess you're talking about foragers, and not those of us who just buy them from shops?
