@grumbulon the thing that’s been really maddening to me is people talking about how bad it is that instance owners are like mini dictators and can kick you off at will, despite the fact that you can just move to a different instance, and they’re saying this ON TWITTER, the website where the ceo has been kicking people off at will all fucking week lol!!
@grumbulon i am 200% in favour of bullying twitter migrants atp even just for that fact that they’re rude feckless assholes who freak out and start insulting people when something they haven’t put 30 seconds of consideration into doesnt conform to their expectations perfectly
@grumbulon a source familiar with the matter got banned by a mod from octodon for being a "capitalist" (but they'll change their mind for some "moneros") and was like "guise ? Mastodon is terrible"
@grumbulon a lot of it is due to the messaging and sometimes due to questionable ui choices, like copying and pasting in the url instead of entering in where you're following from is harder for normies and the mastodon devs don't get this.
@dismay it's like email (in these parts we call it shemale) but with a twitter-esque interface which when I joined ~2 yrs ago took me 30 minutes to understand
Honestly it's the same as Twitter. It's just that some people are on a different website with an extra @ for the site they're on. I don't get what's so confusing to them?
@pawlicker > questionable ui choices I can 100% agree with this to some regard ....mastodon fe is kinda stinky, pleroma fe is very strange with how it utilizes whitespace and nowadays it runs like shit, soapbox looks nice but has some weird quirks that I don't love (I don't dislike it as a FE tho), and bloat is bloat
@grumbulon ngl when i first came on here i didnt really know how fedi worked, but once it was explained to me i got it pretty quick. part of the problem is mastodon's really obtuse branding and them specifically leaving critical details out in order to keep market share
