I've been completely oblivous with what Nvidia is doing with their 40 series GPUs and their proprietary power connector. I didn't know it was this bad.

If I am honest, the nvidia driver experience on shindows is awful. I just like the open driver because I set and forget

I don't run windows but I take your word for it. Windows has gotten better at it since like XP. But as far as I'm aware the "correct" way to install drivers is to get them from the manufacturer's website, which you need then to update for every device, Chipset, sound card, NIC, etc. It's a fucking hassle.

And I just bought a muzzleloader so no upgrade for me till next year at least, plust my 1080ti still works and I have a steam deck.
Nowadays my choice of hardware is restricted to whoever supports Linux open source drivers, which AMD has an advantage. Nvidia also open sourced their drivers but only for 20+ cards.
Nvidia is trying to become Apple so badly with their products given how they hate OEM card makers. Which is funny because Nvidia and Apple have one of the worst business relationships in the industry.

It’s still $1k but it’s probably like 85-90% 4090 raster performance for ~60% of the price. Probably around 3x the speed of the 1080 Ti based on preliminary benchmarks.
