One thing I lost when dumbing my TV was the ability for #HomeAssistant to control it. Sure, I can use an IR blaster. ...but that would only toggle. A automation to turn things off, if the TV was already off, would turn it on. But I have an idea... If I measure the TV's power draw, HA should be able to tell if the TV is on or off, and use that to know not to send "power command" to turn it off if it's already off. 🤔️
@hellomiakoda simply use a controlled-switch to shutdown the power of the TV. It's simple, very well supported by HA. And you will do a step in the eco-direction as many TV consume a significant power even on standby.
@hellomiakoda I would try using pyCEC. It's supposed to remotely operate the CEC port on an HDMI connected device. So you could plug in an old RasPi 3 into a free HDMI port, then run the bridge on it. The docs even provide a little HomeAssistant example for remote telnet control.
@hellomiakoda I feel this. I even kept the TV connected to the Wi-Fi but blocked internet access on my router. But all commands, {veb notifications, run over the cloud. It's so unnecessary.
@guyjantic I've been working my way through 1, 2, and 3! Again! lol
I'm playing the PS4 vereion because the trophy situation on the PS5 situation is infuriating. Looks the same, both versions are very pretty. Also I love that the optin button flips between old and new graphics on the fly... cause I need to go back to old graphics to remember where stuff is, lol.
@AngryAnt Yes. If I go with measuring consumption, I plan to just measure for a bit, and then use the history graph with charts of when PS5 is on (I almost never use the TV without the console) to get an idea where the thresholds should be.
