   So... you can kill Elminster in BG 1, but only in the enhanced edition. (You could always console command nuke him as well, if you have the debugger running).
   
   The Enhanced edition allows you to set traps... being a hybrid of 2.5 and 3.0 AD&D/D&D (because they back-ported over the BG II: ToB rulesets and classes). You can lure ol'El into a large pile of traps, and end the old goat. And nab about 19k exp (and a worthless quarterstaff).
   
   This sets a flag in your save file: "kill_chosen_01=Y."
   
   It does not get used again until you import into ToB, when Elminster confronts you as you're killing off the last of the really powerful Bhaal-spawn. It changes his dialog, and gives you a very aggressive dialog option along the lines of...
   
   "...don't make me kill you again old man."
   
   And Elminster admits that at this point, he doubts he could stop you even if he wanted to. (You're well north of level 25 in multiple classes by this point, you likely have killed Demogorgon and are literally head to toe in no-shit artifacts).
   
   But then again, they have Drizzit come back for his swords and armor in BG II if you cheeze-dicked him with a wand of summoning in TotSC. And he brings his pals. All of them. And if you kill THEM, Malchor Harpell himself shows up later, and one-shots you with imprisonment.
   
   And then there is the Big Metal Unit....
