     people in the us have been screaming about how the ussr was bad because of secret police and the planned economy, but it is 2025 and the us has a secret police and planned economy (by VCs, who are gullible idiots that brought us such gems as "the metaverse" and "feed the world into LLMs") and i think i'd rather be in the actual literal ussr

     my point isn't that it's a dichotomy but that you'd _think_ people who are seemingly laser-focused on how a certain political/economic system is bad would avoid building a political/economic system that is bad in the ways they scream about constantly, and yet they fucking didn't

     @whitequark @Infoseepage I never heard this shit being made up about USSR, only about modern PRC?

     Anyway in my fairly large city (but not Moscow) during certain periods grocery store shelves were quite empty (you had to eat what was in stock that day, which wasn't much, and queue for that for hours) and there was no toilet paper and tooth paste. (That's an oversimplification to fit within a normal-sized post.)
