@Ree I think they'd be doing quite different things if they were truly seeking to protect children. They're merely using "we need to protect children" as an excuse for spying on everyone.
Let me give you an example:
If I wanted to protect children, I'd ban most data-collection and most advertising for children's accounts. Then I'd have one of those public-service ad campaigns saying "you as parents have a duty to be aware in general terms of what your child is doing online and who your child is talking to online". (This is much like the real world. You don't let your daughter visit her friend Sally's house if Sally's pervert uncle is there.)

i think the government should stop trying to protect children on the internet
