We got married in Auckland, love NZ. We would move there in a heartbeat if there were good jobs. Almost all of my friends who moved to NZ, became citizens, love it to bits, also all work in Australia now.

Interesting. The population drain from NZ to Australia doesn't look like letting up. "And it is playing out via immigration trends that suggest unless something changes, New Zealand will be little more than a retirement community for dairy farmers, Lord of the Rings tragics and worn-out All Blacks." #NZpol https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/in-the-game-that-really-matters-australia-is-smashing-nz-20251126-p5nih0.html

@sumisu3 looked into that. They’re not very interested in Asian people running the APAC biz of tech companies in NZ, somehow. Just a vibe.

@skinnylatte the only way that I can see being successful while living in NZ has been to have an Asia Pacific or global role, at a minimum having an NZ role in a global company (at least for tech which is my space). Local roles, even in IT, are not world class in all but rare cases - and I say that after having a local gig for a while last year and knowing plenty of people in local company IT roles, IT consulting, etc.

Current government announced incentives for digital nomads, though haven’t seen much about it since.

Or if you are Peter Thiel you buy your citizenship with only a few days of being in NZ. :(
